Today is election day.  I have one word for you.

Monday, November 3, 2014

It seems that since the end of July, I have either been away from home teaching or at home and prepping as well as being sick.   It has been one thing right after another.  Today I finally went to the Doc and said help because I knew this "bug" was more lethal than everything else had been - Yep, strep can do that for you.  I've now started my antibiotic and hope to feel more chipper in a few days.  Yikes, I might even get my EGA seminar photos posted.

Time for a nap!

World Pasta Day

World Pasta Day

When : Always October 25th World Pasta Day is today. It should come as no surprise to discover that this special day promotes the consumption of pasta around the world. It seeks to increase awareness of the benefits of pasta. Each year on World Pasta Day, events are held to help spread the world about pasta and it's nutritional value. The National Pasta Association and pasta manufacturers sponsor these events and activities. On World Pasta Day, pile up your plate, with a big dish of pasta and your favorite sauce!

FOr my hubby since his favorite food is pasta and whatever!

As usual I seem to be running behind.  Amazing what a "simple" cold can do to you - for three long weeks -then bam! - you get exposed to something else and down you go again.  I need a short break with no kids around me so I can get healthy and get my immune system working again.

Meanwhile life has gone on.   I even fit a birthday in despite not feeling well.

I love the pink party hat to hold the balloons!

My oldest daughter remembered that I love roses - of all colors (except black).

And I have been busy working on a new project!

Meanwhile my class piece (taught by Orna Willis) from ANG National seminar is still waiting on me to get finished.   And it will continue to wait until after EGA National seminar as well.  And even then it has to compete for time with the new designs.  It will get done though.

I definitely have far too much to stitch - existing patterns and the new ones, still in my mind and needing to get to paper at least.

Time to get back to work again!

Mad Hatter Day

Mad Hatter Day

When : Always October 6th Mad Hatter Day is a great day to be silly and celebrate silliness. The Mad Hatter is a fictional cartoon character depicted in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter is always acting silly. So, on Mad Hatter Day, it is only fair and fitting to act a little silly yourself. Despite being a silly day, the selection of the date was actually quite logical. The Mad Hatter wears a top hat. On the front of the hat is a slip of paper with "10/6" written on it. The paper is believed to be an order to make the hat, and that it costs ten shillings sixpence. Grab yourself a top hat, and have a a very silly Mad Hatter's Day! Did You Know? In the 8th Century, mercury was used in hat making in a process called "carroting". Mercury poisoning drove some hatters crazy (mad).

POW/MIA Recognition Day

POW/MIA Recognition Day

When : Third Friday of September POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action. It also seeks the return of the remains of fallen soldiers. The first official commemoration of POW/MIAs was July 18, 1979. It was the result of resolutions passed in Congress. The first national ceremony was held on this date. Over the next several years, it was held in varying dates of the year. Finally, in 1986, The National League of Families proposed the third Friday in September as a day to recognize and remember POW/MIAs. This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars. Each year, the president of the United States issues a proclamation on this day. Did you know? Federal law requires the POW/MIA flag to be flown on the following days:
  • Armed Forces Day, May 16
  • Memorial Day, May 25
  • Flag Day, June 14
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • POW/MIA Day, 3rd Friday of September
  • Veterans Day, Nov. 11

You will also notice the POW/MIA flag flown at all US Post office buildings, Veterans Administration, military memorial facilities, and many U.S. government buildings. Please take a few moments today, to remember our missing soldiers, and those held as prisoners of war. Attend a ceremony in your area. Say a prayer for POWs and MIAs. Also, write to your senators and congressman to urge continued and increased effort towards bringing every service man and woman home.

This is something special to me.  When I was in high school, one of my classmate's father was a POW in Vietnam.   I remember watching tv when to POWs came home and saw my friend with his family, running to greet their Dad.
